Review: This Girl by Colleen Hoover

Posted on May 30, 2023May 25, 2023 by Carissa Knight

The third and final book in the “Slammed” series, “This Girl” was a different kind of book.

It wasn’t the traditional story arc, in the way the first two were written. Instead, it was more like a diary of sorts.

Now on their honeymoon, Will and Layken are revisiting the romance that brought them together – their trials and tribulations.

Layken wants to hear all about their pivotal moments from the mouth of her husband, so he tells her his thoughts, feelings, and bonus insights she wasn’t even aware of.

Some of the stories are heartwarming and others are upsetting to Layken.

But overall, their bond can’t be shaken now that they’re married.

The tension in this book was at a minimum and there wasn’t much in the way of a story arc.

It often felt like a ploy that was meant to drag out this series and it wasn’t really necessary.

From a writer’s perspective, I could tell that Colleen had no intention of writing this book, but she made a third happen anyway.

Don’t get me wrong, it was still fun to read and explore the thoughts and feelings of these characters we’ve come to know and love. It just wasn’t as good as some of the others she’s created.

Overall, if you read the “Slammed” series, just know that while this ends beautifully, it’s not as satisfying as if it had ended with “Point of Retreat.”

Still worth the read anyway. 😉
